Strawtegi CO2ttage is an urban demonstration home focused on achieving the lowest upfront carbon footprint possible for new residential construction, while meeting and exceeding standards for health, safety, comfort and environmental sustainability.

Buildings create about 40% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions. Collectively, we need to reduce global CO2 emissions by 65% by 2030 and 100% by 2040 in order to limit the irreversible impacts of climate change.
Increasing healthy forest, plant, and soil life on the earth is the simplest, cheapest, and fastest way to reduce atmospheric carbon. When we build with sustainably harvested bio-based materials, we lock in sequestered carbon for the lifetime of the structure. The Strawtegi CO2ttage uses straw, hemp, and wood fiber to create a well insulated building shell. Integrated solar roof tiles power super-efficient climate control systems and applicances with little to no operational carbon emissions. Strawtegi CO2ttage material selections eliminate fossil fuel inputs in favor of sustainably harvested biomass, drawing down atmospheric carbon, sequestering net 5.5 tons CO2 equivalents for the life of the structure, and building in harmony with natural systems.
